Welcome to the UNE Philosophy Society
UNE has a rich philosophy heritage and the aim of this club is to build on that heritage. This society/club grants UNE Philosophy Higher Degree Research (HDR) students various opportunities that may not have been feasible otherwise. For example: attending lectures and conferences, holding events with notable guest speakers (online and in person), assisting with materials to support ones study, hosting networking forums, and ultimately, creating a space where Philosophy students at UNE can come together, connect, talk openly, and share experiences.
What we are about:
We are committed to providing events and services that build a community of researchers who support one another, collaborate, and most of all - have fun. Our members are conducting research within philosophy (classical theory, politics, social theory, sociology etc) and their disciplines are currently across the schools of HASSE.
We are conscious that it can be tempting to only mix with others in your discipline, wereas we have found that discussing research, papers, and current events with researchers in different disciplines inspires creativity, critical thinking, and lively discussions!
Therefore, if you are completing a PhD, Masters Degree, or an Honours Resarch project at UNE in philosophy or associated disciplines (classical theory, political philosophy/sociology, other sociology disciplines, social theory, education, etc) we invite you to join our society by clicking on the memberships tab and submitting an expression of interest. You will receive an email from us with instructions on how to join.
We meet fortnightly on a Thursday afternoon at 3.30pm via Zoom to discuss where we are up to, or a paper chosen by a member, or to provide feedback on something someone has written, or to practice upcoming presentations! We encourage all members to put their hands up to get involved. However, if you prefer to just contribute to the society by turning up and joining in - thats okay too. No pressure!
Please don't hesitate to contact us via philsoc@myune.edu.au if you have additional needs or if we can be of assistance or if you have any questions.
